Okame – おかめ

A visual exploration that weaves together memories of Japanese tradition and abstraction, transforming the figure of Okame into an evocative presence suspended between form and perception.
The watercolor unfolds through a dialogue between fullness and emptiness, transparency and layers of colour. Earthy tones meet shades of blue and green, giving rise to a fluid, circular movement. Small graphic marks interrupt and accompany the flow of colour, creating a visual rhythm in which gesture and material complement one another.
The figure is not explicitly depicted but gradually emerges from the composition, like a trace of memory or an image rising from the unconscious. The artist moves away from traditional representation to explore what Okame evokes: good fortune, benevolence and serenity.
The work thus leaves room for a personal interpretation, where the suggestion of the symbol meets the imagination of the viewer.
